SIX MILE BRIDGE [1]. AKA and see "Banks of the Allen," “Banks of the Ilen (The),” "Banks of the Uilleann," "Barrack Street Boys (The)," "Birnie-Bouzle," "Braes of Tullymet," "Brides Away," "Bride to Bed (The)," "Brides to Bed," "British Naggon," "Caledonian Hunt (1) (The)," "Cheese It," "Corney is Coming," "Crawford's Reel (1)," "Crockett's Honeymoon," "D. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB (Levey): AA’BB’ (Connolly & Martin). Sixmilebridge is a town in County Clare on the river Gearn, midway between Limerick and Ennis, not far from Bunratty Castle. Peter Kennedy gives this tune as an alternate title to his “Humours of Six Mile Bridge,” although I think it’s a distanced version at best. Hornpipe versions appear under the title “Banks of the Ilen,” among others. Fiddler Séamus Connolly (2002) says he first heard the tune played by the Castle Céilí Band on one of Ciarán MacMathúna’s broadcasts on Irish radio.
