BOSTON BOYS, THE. American, Reel. C Major (Cole, Ryan): D Major (Miller). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody has some currency among Irish fiddlers, perhaps through Paddy Cronin, who lived in Boston for many years before returning to his native Co. Kerry. Ryan's Mammoth was printed by Elias Howe & Co., one of Boston's leading music publishers. Canadian fiddler Isidore Soucy recorded a reel in 1937 ("Reel des braves") that researcher Jean Duval finds "vaguely related" to "Boston Boys."
