SLOAN'S LAMENTATION ("Caoine Sloin" or "Abhran Shloin"). AKA and see "Foggy Dew (2) (The)." Irish, Slow Air (2/4 time). G Minor (O'Neill's): A Flat Major (O'Sullivan/Bunting). Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. The melody is best known as "The Foggy Dew." Bunting printed the tune in his 1840 collection in the aeolian mode (which was reprinted, transposed, by O'Neill), though editor O'Sullivan (1983) chooses to print his MS version, in the Ionian mode.
