SNOWY MONDAY. English, March (6/8 time) or Jig. England, Northumberland. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). A modern composition by Northumbrian fiddler Willie Taylor (1916-2000), very well known among Northumbrian musicians. Taylor said the tune had ‘lain about’ half written, until he was snowed in for a time on a stormy Monday. Taylor became known when Northumbrian concertina player Alistair Anderson brought together Taylor, piper Joe Hutton and harmonica player Will Atkinson to perform as ‘The Shepherds’.
