SNUFF BOX. AKA and see "Bill Clancy's Delight," "Ladies' Delight," "Pretty Peggy (1)." Scottish, Reel (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The "Snuff Mill" melody appears in the music manuscript copybook of fiddler John Burks, dated 1821, attributed to “W.M.” (photocopy in ed. possession). Unfortunately, nothing is known of Burks or where he may have obtained his title for this tune. The reel has a Scottish provenance (see "Pretty Peggy (1)"), but also appears in O'Neill's collection (as "Bill Clancy's Delight" and in the Boston-published Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883) as "Ladies' Delight."
