The reel was entered into the c. 1880's music manuscript collection of County Leitrim musician Stephen Grier (c. 1824-1894). Fr. John Quinn finds cognate melodies in "Pipe Reel (1)" printed in John Gow's 1804 collection, the Northumbrian collected "Captain Ross (2)," and the less related "Lowlander's Hunt (The)."
