The first strain is cognate with that of "Gossan that Beat His Father (The)" family of Irish tunes, along with Glasgow publisher James Aird's "Lochiel's Awa' to France (but he'll come again)" (in Selections of Scotch, English, Irish and Foreign Airs, vol. 1, 1782).
