GREEN MOUNTAIN BOYS [2]. American, "Country Dance" (6/8 time) or Jig. C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The jig is a composition of Michael Higgins (as "Green Mountain Boy" i.e. singular), who published his Original Dances, Waltzes & Hornpipes for the Violin in New York in 1829. Unfortunately, nothing is known about him. The tune was at one time a popular jig among Cape Breton fiddlers, perhaps picked up in one of the New York music publishing firm of Harding & Co., although its popularity seems to have diminished considerably on the island.

Source for notated version: Winston Fitzgerald (1914–1987, Cape Breton) [Cranford].
