VAN BEUREN'S HORNPIPE. American, Hornpipe (2/4 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Composed by Michael Higgins and printed in New York in 1829 in his collection Original Dances, Waltzes & Hornpipes for the Violin. The title may honor Martin Van Buren, of New York Dutch descent, who became the eighth President of the United States in 1837. At the time of Higgins' publication in 1829, Van Buren was serving as Secretary of State in Andrew Jackson's administration.
