Tune properties and standard notation
GLORY REEL (Ril na Gloire). Irish, Reel. Ireland, Glencolumbkille and Kilcar area, southwest Donegal. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABCC'. The title is an Englished corruption of the Gaelic "Ril na Gloar" ('the drone-sounding reel'). A popular reel in County Donegal, given impetus from the playing of the Deargs of Kilcar; in fact, the tune has been credited to the late Francie Dearg (red-haired) Byrne of Cashel, Kilcar, Donegal. An untitled tune in Brendan Breathnach's Ceol Rince na hÉirreann (vol. II, No. 162) bears strong similarities to the Donegal tune.
