HORNPIPE [52]. Irish, Hornpipe (whole time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The tune was entered as an untitled hornpipe into Book 3 of the c. 1883 music manuscript collection of County Leitrim fiddler and piper [biography:Stephen Grier]]. Researchers Fr. John Quinn and Conor Ward find the first strain is cognate with that of "Bashful Bachelor (2) (The)," "Wily Old Bachelor (The)," "Obelisk Hornpipe," "Shaw's Reel," and "Walk Your Chalk."
