PATE SIMMONS' SCHOTTISCHE. American, Schottische (cut time). USA; Iowa, Missouri. C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). ABB'CC'. The tune was named after the announcer for the Henry Field Company's radio station KFNF (Shenandoah, Iowa, est. 1924) country music broadcasts, Pate Simmons, in the 1930's. This was his favorite tune from the repertoire of fiddler Casey Jones, who, along with Bob Walters and others (the local stable known as "the KFNF Entertainers"), frequently was featured on the station, which advertised itself is "The Friendly Farmer Station." Also in the 1930's Simmons was at station WJAG, and broadcast from a specially built studio and auditorium at the east end of the another Henry Field branch store in Norfolk, Nebraska. Simmons was "The Hired Hand," the manager of the store, and the chief announcer for the live music shows.
