The melody was entered as an untitled jig in Book 3 of the c. 1883 music manuscript collection of County Leitrim piper and musician biography:Stephen Grier. Grier researchers Fr. John Quinn and Conor Ward find cognates with "Wandering Minstrel (The)," "Merry Maidens (The)," and "Jimmey's New Jig."
