BLUE BREECHES, THE. Irish, Reel (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Blue Breeches" is found in a couple of fiddlers' manuscript collections from County Leitrim/County Longford. Researcher Conor Ward finds the tune to be a reel-time setting, and perhaps a derivative, of the jig family that includes "Fan Mar Táir a Chlaidhre!," "Jackson's Lodge (2)," "Stay As You Are You Rogue!," "Stay where you are," and "Shun the Corner." The reel is contained in the 1885 music manuscript collection of fiddler Francis Reynolds (1862-1946) of Ballinamuck, Co Longford. See also the related "Make Your Breakfast Early."
