Tune properties and standard notation
GLENLYON HOUSE. Scottish, Jig. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed by Malcolm MacDonald (1740-1800), the tune appears in his first collection (c. 1788), dedicated to Mrs. Baird of Newbyth. Glenlyon House is a few miles north of Loch Tay in the Highlands of Perthshire, at the foot of Glen Lyon, one of the longest and most picturesque glens of Scotland. The village of Fortingall is nearby (the birthplace of Pontius Pilate). The present house dates from 1665, and was the residence of Robert Glenlyon, the infamous Campbell chief responsible for the massacre of the MacDonalds at Glencoe.
