MARMOT'S REEL. AKA and see "Marmont's Retreat." Scottish (?), Reel. B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCC. "Marmot's Reel" was earlier published in Boston by Elias Howe in his Musician's Omnibus Nos. 6 & 7 (1880-1882) under the title "Marmont's Retreat." Howe's title may refer toMarshal Wikipedia:Auguste_de_Marmont (1774-1852) who led the 50,000-man Army of Portugal for Napoleon during the Peninsular War in northern Spain. Marmont was forced to retreat after the Battle of Salamanca, where the French forces were defeated by the Anglo-Portuguese army under Wellington.
