GOOD NIGHT, GOOD NIGHT AND JOY BE WITH YOU. AKA - "Good Night." AKA and see "Fairly Shot of Her (1)." Irish, English; Jig or Country Dance Tune (6/8 time). Ireland, Munster. A Minor ('A' part) & C Major ('B' part){Sharp}: E Minor ('A' part) & G Major ('B' part) {Stanford/Petrie}. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Stanford/Petrie): AAB (Sharp). Petrie says the title "is common to several tunes of a similar character, and indicates the purpose to which they were applied, namely, as farewell dance, or march-tunes, played on the breaking up of festive meetings; and I believe this is, or, perhaps, was, the tune commonly played on such occasions in the province of Connaught." See also Francis O'Neill's version with the truncated title "Good Night," and Scottish and English versions under the title "Fairly Shot of Her (1)" and similar variant names.
