A large tune family with many variants in England and Scotland as well as Ireland. “Rolling in the Barrel” is a related tune, while the song air and jig "Cock Your Pistol Charlie (2)" is a 6/8 time setting. Co. Leitrim piper and fiddler biography:Stephen Grier included the reel in volume 2 of his c. 1883 music manuscript collection as "Polly's Reel/Rant."
