HANG FIRE. AKA and see "Buckley's Favorite (3)," "Kiley's Reel." American, 'Sand Jig' (2/4 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. 'Hang fire' means 'hold your fire,' or 'wait a minute'. Labelled a "jig" in Ryan/Cole, meaning a type of old-time banjo tune rather than the traditional Irish 6/8 jig; Kerr calls it a clog dance. The same tune appears again in Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883) as "Kiley's Reel." Fr. John Quinn finds the same tune published in an earlier Elias Howe Co. (Boston) publication under the title "Buckley's Favorite (3)."
