"Dougal Campbell Esq. of Ballinaby's Jig" was composed by Islay fiddler-composer biography:Alexander Mackay. Ballinaby is an area near the western shore of the Hebridean Isle of Islay, Argyllshire, Scotland. Southwest across the straight is northern Ireland. There are several recorded Viking burials at Ballinaby, and an eighteenth century report mentions three 'stupendous' stones standing in a row here (one of which still exists intact, with another partially standing). Dugald Campbell of Ballinaby was born in 1773 (date of death unknown) and married Isabella Hunter of East Lothian, fifteen years his junior. They had at least one son, Colin. Dugald was the tenant of the farm Torobolls and Smaull in Ballinaby.
