CAMERONIAN REEL [1], THE (Cor Cameronac). AKA and see "Aisling Uí Chiardha," "Carey's Reel," "Carey's Dream," "Reel (74)," "Roger's Fancy." Irish (Scottish?), Reel. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Cole, O'Neill/1915 & 1001): AAB (O'Neill/Krassen): AABB (Taylor): AA'BB' (Harker/Rafferty): ABC (Mitchell). A version of "Camerionian Reel [1]" was entered as an untitled reel into the large c. 1883 music manuscript collection of County Leitrim fiddler and piper biography:Stephen Grier (c. 1824-1894), for which see "Reel (74)." David Taylor (1992) points out that the second part has changed since O'Neill (1001 Gems) was first published and that there are several settings of this tune in common currency. Some superficial similarity to "Rolling on the Ryegrass." William Honeyman, in his 1898 hornpipe tutor, included a version of "Cameronian Reel (1)" under the title "Pigeon on the Gate (3) (The)." Since his is the only source to do so, we conclude it is a mistake.
