THREE DROPS OF BRANDY. Irish, Reel (cut time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle) The tune was recorded on 78 RPM for Columbia Records (No. A2309) in 1917 by Patrick Fitzpatrick (Three Drops of Brandy/Donnybrook Fair). Fitzpatrick was a flute and Highland pipes player originally from County Leitrim who learned to play the uilleann pipes after he emigrated to America. He found a measure of fame and fortune in his new country, performing in various vaudeville companies, and constructed a venue in New York City called Celtic Hall.
"Three Drops of Brandy" is not related to the slip jig "Drops of Brandy" but is does share the first strain to the reel "Lucky in Love." Turn of the 20th century piper Patsy Touhey" also recorded "Three Drops of Brandy" on a wax cylinder.
