BISBEE'S WALTZ. American, Waltz (3/4 time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). ABBCC. Jasper "Jep" Bisbee (1843-1935) was a fiddler from Paris, Michigan, whose family had rural New York roots. He was in his 80's when he was discovered by Henry Ford whilst playing at a Michigan dance in 1923 during the Ford family's annual camping trip. The tune's second strain recalls "Copenhagen Waltz" in Mr. & Mrs. Henry Ford's Good Morning collection, says Bronner (1987). Ford's square dance band, consisting of Clayton Perry (fiddle), Edwin F. Baxter (dulcimer), William Hallup (cimbalom) and Maurice Castel (sousaphone), recorded the waltz for Columbia records in 1927.
