SEÁN RYAN'S HORNPIPE [2]. AKA and see “McMahon's Hornpipe,” "Miss Mahon's Hornpipe," “Trip to Vermont.” Irish, Hornpipe. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune was composed by County Tipperary fiddler Seán Ryan (1919-1985), and recorded by him in 1961 with Peter Carberry (Avoca 33-AV-135) as "Seán Ryan's", as he had no title for the tune. Fr. John Quinn explains the title for the tune commonly used for the hornpipe in the in the 1950's and 1960's was "Miss Mahon's," but it was published in 1975 in Eamon Jordan's Whistle and Sing as "McMahon's Hornpipe," possibly the result of a miss-hearing ('McMahon's' for 'Miss Mahon's') or a printer's error.
