ROCKY MOUNTAIN HORNPIPE [1]. American, Hornpipe. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Galbraith family lore has it that this was the oldest piece in their repertoire, dating back to the 1820’s, and was sometimes called "Old Rocky Mountain." Galbraith's mother, when he was a boy and learning the piece, would sit and pat her feet and say that it put her in mind of Indians dancing. There are similarities to “Zack Wheat's Piece,” but this "Rocky Mountain Hornpipe" seems unique to the Galbraith family.
