POLKA DE ST-BASILE. French-Canadian, Polka (cut or 2/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB. Saint-Basile is a municipality situated in the Portneuf region, on the west bank of the St. Lawrence river about twenty-five miles below Quebec City. Soucy researcher Jean Duval finds the second strain of the tune to be nearly identical to that of "Kelly's Hornpipe (1)," while the first strain is similar to that of "Kitty Sean's Barn Dance," from County Donegal, Ireland[1].
