Soucy researcher Jean Duval believes Soucy's title may refer to champion cyclistRaymond Bédard of Lachine, a working class suburb of Montréal that borders the St Lawrence River. He got his nickname, Ti-Coq, because of his small stature, but he was one of the best North American cyclists of the 1930's, until World War II intervened (in which he saw service as a seaman). The Toronto Globe and Mail of Oct. 19th, 1936 gushed after one of his races:
