N:This melody was originally the "Drum and Fife March," dating from the N:Revolutionary War. In 1843 composer Francis Henry Brown published his arrangement N:to go with the poem "Land of Washington" by George Pope Morris. N:Quadrille sets made up of popular songs were very common in the 19th century. The N:American Quadrille was originally published by famous bandleader Jullien in 1853.
