THOMPSON'S REEL [1] (Seisd/Cor Mic Tomais). AKA and see "Spirvin's Fancy." Irish, Reel. G Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). O'Neill/1915): AA'B (O'Neill/1850 & 1001): AA'BB' (O'Neill/Krassen). O'Neill's "Thompson's Reel" is a close replication of "Spirvin's Fancy" in Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883). Paul de Grae finds "Zeke Backus' Reel" in Boston music publisher Elias Howe's collections to be a very similar to Ryan's tune, as is "Thompson's Hornpipe." Some consider "Thompson's Reel [1]" a composite tune, with the first part being a version of "Girl that Broke My Heart (1) (The)," and the second part a version of the 'B' part of "Paddy Lynn's Delight."
