HOOKER'S HORNPIPE [2]. American, Hornpipe or Reel (2/4 time). USA; north Missouri, Nebraska. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The low part is reminiscent of Clayton McMichen's tune "McMichen's Reel." Hooker may refer to a fiddler, the Civil War general Joe Hooker, or, as Howard Marshall points out, to a laborer on a riverboat, a petty thief or pickpocket, a one-masted fishing boat, loggers, etc. It is on Missouri fiddler Charlie Walden's list of '100 essential Missouri fiddle tunes'.
