"Sanders Brane" was composed by "Mr. Duncan", according to the Gows, and attributed to "S. Duncan" by Joseph Lowe. The tune was also entered into the large 1840 music manuscript collection of multi-instrumentalist John Rook, Waverton, near Wigton, Cumbria.
