BONNY LASS OF BALLANTRAE. AKA - "Bonny Lasses of Ballintra." AKA and see "Lass of Ballintrae (2)," "Lasses o' Ballantrae (The)." Scottish, Reel. F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. The tune is credited to "Captain Fraser" (Capt. Simon Fraser of Knockie) by Lowe in his 1844 collection, however, it does not seem to appear in the Fraser collections. It was printed by the Gows in their 4th Repository as "Lass of Ballintrae (2)," with no attribution. County Leitrim piper and fiddler biography:Stephen Grier (c. 1824-1894) included the reel in vol. 2 of his c. 1883 music copybook collection as "Bonny Lasses of Ballintra."
