TRIP TO ATHLONE(, A). AKA and see “Newport Lass (The).” Irish, Jig (6/8 time). D Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Trip to Athlone" was recorded by the Tulla Ceili Band, Tulla, County Clare, and by east Clare fiddlers Paddy Canny and P.J. Hayes. Some sources give the key as ‘D’ major, but Randy Miller says a “close hearing (to the Canny/Hayes recording) confirms the use of the C natural throughout.”
