TRIP TO NETTLE BED, A. English, Jig. E Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA’BB. Country dance directions appear in Peter Thompson’s Twenty Four Country Dances for the Year 1755. The music (along with dance directions) first appears in John Hinton’s periodical Universal Magazine of Knowledge and Pleasure (London, 1756). Subsequently the music appeared in Charles and Samuel Thompson’s 1757 country dance collection, and John Johnson’s 200 Favourite Country Dances, vol. 8 (London, 1758).
