"Mr. Brodie of Brodie's Reel" was composed by James Taylor, a teacher of music and dance in Elgin, Moray. The tune is named for William Brodie of Brodie Castle, who inherited the estate in 1824 on the death of his grandfather, James Brodie (Williams own father having previously died).
