Ethnic Music on Records, Vol. 5 (Spottswood, 1990) has two entries titled "Maid Behind the Bar" that predate James Murphy's 1920 recording above. They are: -- Patrick J "Patsy" Touhey (1865-1923) recorded "The Humours of Glin- Jig / The Maid Behind the Bar- Reel" on cylinder records made between 1901-1919. This has been reissued on NPU 001 (cassette). -- Edward Herborn (accordion) & James Wheeler recorded "The Maid Behind the Bar- Reel" in NYC 15 September 1916 (47022-1) released as Columbia A2147 & Consolidated A2147.
