COMING THROUGH THE RYE [2]. American, Reel. USA, Missouri. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB'CC'. The tune bears no relation to the air for poet Robert Burns' song "Comin' Thro' the Rye (1)." Liner notes to soure Enloe's recording suggest similarity with West Virginia fiddler Ellis Hall's version of "Stony Fork." Drew Beisswenger (2008) suggests a composite of associations, with the 'A' part resembling "Cripple Creek," the 'B' part the "Little Brown Jug" family of tunes, and the 'C' part "Temperance Reel." I add that the 'A' part is similar to the French-Canadian "Reel de la broue."
