OCHAL REEL. AKA and see "Eccles's Rant/Reel," "Glenlyon (2)," "Mr. Campbell's Reel." Scottish, Reel (cut time). D Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody appears in the Drummond Castle Manuscript, Part 2 (1734, No. 20, in the possession of the Earl of Ancaster at Drummond Castle), inscribed "A Collection of the best Highland Reels written by David Young, W.M. & Accomptant." Young also entered the tune in two of his subsequent manuscript collections, The MacFarlane Manuscript (c. 1740, No. 93, p. 141) and the Young-Bodleian Manuscript (c. 1740, No. 46, f. 50), albeit under the title "Eccles's Rant/Reel" in both. Under the title "Mr. Campbell's Reel" the melody can be found in the George Skene Manuscript (1715-17, No. 19, f.6).
