GUN, THE. AKA and see "Valiant Captain (The)." English, Country Dance Tune (6/4 time). D Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). The melody was first published in the first edition of John Playford's The English Dancing Master (1651). It was retained in each edition of the series through the eighth edition of 1690 (in the edition of 1670 the alternate title "The Valiant Captain" was added).
