WINONA ECHOES. AKA and see "Over the Waves (1)." American, Waltz (3/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. "Winona Echoes" is fiddler Willie Narmour and guitarist Sherril "Shell" Smith's reworking of the popular waltz standard "Over the Waves (1)." It was recorded (backed with "The Rose Waltz") in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1934. The duo were from Winona, north-central Mississippi. "Winona Echoes Rag" is a different tune, by another area dup, The Ray Brothers.
