BADIN LE. AKA and see "Plumb Pudding." The melody first appears in Rutherford's Choice Collection of Sixty of the Most Celebrated Country Dances (London, 1750). Rutherford's tune may have been modeled after a French country dance called "La Badine" that appears in early 18th century Continental publications, although the English and French tunes that are the vehicles for the dance are different.
