"St. Martin's Lane" was first published by in 1696 by Henry Playford in the Second Part of the Dancing Master (Supplement to the 9th edition of the Dancing Master). It was subsequently retained in every edition of the long-running Dancing Master series of editions through the 18th and final edition of 1728, then published by John Young, heir to the Playford publishing concern. "St. Martin's Lane" was also printed by rival London music publisher John Walsh inThe Compleat Country Dancing Master'''''', editions of 1718, 1731 and 1754.
