PURRING GIRLS OF THE VILLAGE, THE. AKA and see “Anderson's Reel (1).” Irish, Reel. Ireland, Sliabh Luachra region of the Cork-Kerry border. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA’BB. Peripatetic Sliabh Luachra fiddle-teacher Padraig O'Keeffe [1] (1887-1963) called "Anderson's Reel (1)" the "Purring Girls of the Village," as remembered by County Kerry accordion player Johnny O'Leary. "Anderson's" begins similarly to "Bride's to Bed (The)," which itself has an alternate title "Purring Village Ladies (The)," so it would seem that a 'Purring' title was also in circulation at one time for the similar tunes, perhaps in Munster.
