The tune is a cognate but distanced member of a tune family that includes "Dan Backus' Favorite," "Jim Coleman's (1)," "Liverpool Jack's," "Take your Choice," and "Terence's Ramble," several of which titles can be found in Ryan's Mammoth Collection (Boston, 1883). A version of the tune was entered into Book 2 of the large c. 1883 music manuscript collection of County Leitrim fiddler and piper biography:Stephen Grier (c. 1824-1894) (see "Reel (56)").
