"So Early in the Morning" is a well-known children's song. The melody was entered into the Alex Sutherland Manuscript (Ireland, c.1930) as "Early in the Morning." The title comes from the chorus of the rhyme sung to it:
When I was young, I had no sense,
I bought a fiddle for eighteen pence.
The only tune that it would play
Was “Over the Hills and Far Away”.

My Aunt Jane she called me in
She gave me tea out of a tin,

The tune was in the repertory of the Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem.
