Composed by Aberdeenshire fiddler-composer and Scottish dancing master wikipedia:James_Scott_ Skinner (1843-1927), who (according to the University of Aberdeen's Music of James Scott Skinner site) probably wrote "Ballindalloch Castle"[1] for Lady MacPherson-Grant of Ballindaloch Castle, Banff-shire, the family estate since 1546. Her name can be found in the 'List of Patrons and Families who have Received Tuition from Mr and Mrs Scott Skinner' in Skinner's Miller o' Hirn Collection (1881). The tune is meant for both pipes and fiddle, although, as Skinner notes, on the pipes the tune will be sounded in the mixolydian mode (as the 'g' note of the scale can only be played natural).
