Composed by flute player Vincent Broderick, originally from Bullaun, north of Loughrea, County Galway, originally titled “The Tinker’s Daughter,” but often known by the alternate titles. Peter Broderick (alternate title) is Vincent’s older brother. “The Tinker’s Daughter” is one of Broderick’s more popular tunes, and is sometimes heard in a medley with two other of his compositions, “Midsummer Night (The)” and “Crock of Gold (The).” The melody is in Martin Mulvihill’s book as “Joe Monahan's Reel.”
