SPRINGTIME IN BATTERSEA. English, Waltz (3/4 time). C Major (‘A’ and ‘B’ parts) & G Major (‘C’ part). Standard tuning (fiddle). ABACAB. 'Composed' by Tommy Williams, a duet concertina player, who recorded an album for Free Reed Records at the age of 86. On the recording he talked about his career playing and tuning concertinas for the famous maker Lachenal in London in the early 20th century. He took his concertina to the trenches in France to entertain the troops in World War I. The tune, however, isa version of a tune popular in Germany and Austria called "Der Schneewalzer" (Snow Waltz).
