AULD BRIG O' DON, THE. Scottish, Slow Air ('Pastoral'). E Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed by J. Henry (1860-1914), who lived in Aberdeenshire and lead the Aberdeen Strathspey and Reel Society from its inception in 1903 until his death, according to Hunter. The author also reports that the old bridge at Balbownie, which spans the River Don, was built in the 13th and 14th centuries, and features a beautiful gothic arch, anchored on bedrock on either side and spanning sixty-seven feet.
