NEW POLICEMAN [1]. AKA and see "Belles of Tipperary (2)," "John Donnolly's Fancy." Irish, Reel. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The reel is related to "Miss Monaghan’s Reel" family of tunes. The title "The New Policeman" properly belongs to the tune so-named in the O'Neill collection (New Policeman (3), The. The title was transferred to this tune, according to flute player Kevin Crawford, by Matt Molloy, who playfully applied it to the reel when it was played by fiddle great Tommy Peoples, who was at one time a Garda (Irish policeman). Belfast fiddler Sean McGuire called the tune "John Donnolly's Fancy."
